Twin Shadow - Confess (Album Review)

Alright album review time, I awaited this album for nearly two years. It was due the massive expectation as to how Twin Shadow would follow up their impressive first album along with how they would progress the sound associated with Twin Shadow. This 11 track album doesn't disappoint at all, not only it is better than their album but it brings a totally different vibe. Each track is uniquely different  and equally as important as each other, saying that the album still flows well and gels to make a brilliant album. My excitement for this album come when the first single 5 Seconds was released, it was hard to tell whether the whole album would follow this style of music or be a flash in the pan which would be followed by a terribly disappointing album. Safe to say that this was just a taste of what was to come, not only was it a great single to start with it gave birth to what Twin Shadow's new sound would be based on. Moving from their 80's new wave sound which Forget bought and into a much more intense and darker sounding album. Filled with amazing vocals, clever guitar riffs and the subtly of progressive piano and bass lines, all topped with simple and powerful drum lines. Some fans may say that they have completely turned their back on a sound which was unique in this decade and sorely missed, as well as a sound which made them what they are. However as a major fan of George Lewis Jr's. work I love that they have moved and developed a new sound which make sure they don't just keep producing albums out of the sound they are know for like a lot of bands. It shows the versatility of Lewis Jr's. song writing and his ability to produce something with substance. Now to put a fine tooth comb through this album, it was released on the 10th of July.

Contents of the album
1. Golden Light
2. You Call Me On
3. Five Seconds

6. Beg For The Night

10. Be Mine Tonight
11. Mirror In The Dark

The album opens with a much lighter track than the rest of the album Golden Light , its a bright start dominated with the voice of Lewis Jr. this track is very much stripped back highlighting the up beat underlying track. Although not the greatest track of the album I believe it's a great way to complement the rest of the album. From track 2 You Call Me I was hooked to this album, dominated with a grunge guitar through the intro. This is a very different Twin Shadow sounding like a Sleigh Bells guitar riff this song progresses to a much more complicated song, with synths and drum bring feeling and emotion to this song. This off beat drum beat mixed with guitar makes for a some what dance track. The next Five Seconds probably my favourite track off this album has already been review so I'm not going to repeat myself. This 4th track of album Run My Heart has consumed my last week of music listening, it has grow on me along with five seconds make this album. The guitar riff on this song is amazingly beautiful combined with the simple drum beat and lyrics which carry substances make for one of the greatest songs of this year. Later met with the usual Twin Shadow synths which throughout this whole album bring a dark sound to these tracks and later turn to much brighter clean piano fills.

The rest of the album is extremely solid tracks and don't take away from what is a majorly impressive 2nd album from this one man band. Patient and I don't care are very impressive and along with the other two big hits of this album.

What more can I say about this album i couldn't have been more impressed or happy to hear what this album bought to the table. George Lewis Jr. is a major talent and sadly not enough of the world knows about this amazing man and band he fronts. All songs bring complexity and many layers, but the one thing that makes every track on this album is the lyrics and the vocals. The voice sets the tone for every track and is naturally quite brilliant. The one thing you will not when seeing these guys is that they won't produce boring shows and reproduce studio sounds, they are the complete package. I highly recommend you spending $20 and getting this album.

Confess is available everywhere now.
