Yeasayer are in the realm of their own capability to produce a sound which can never be related to by any other musicians of time, and continue to do so after their 2ndalbum released in 2010 Odd Blood to produce a further more complex sound which brings us to their newly released album Fragrant World.
Moving past their danceable features which are present in Odd Blood, Fragrant World starts off with Fingers Never Bleed and instantaneously gives off a Darker yet upbeat sound that is really indescribable. No two songs featured have similar drum beats nor similar sounds and upon multiple listening’s you begin to pick up even more parts of each song. Released as their first single, Henrietta progresses from a bright beginning and later winds down to a softer tone whilst “Oh Henrietta, we can live on forever” is sung over and over really setting an emotion to a dramatic end. But it is Devil and the Deed which provides the darker element of the album with thumping Bass, outstanding synths, complex drums and lyrics “you could never handle if she was into magic” which give off the unknown element of the album.
Each song in Fragrant World has various ideas hidden in every word from demons and hell breaking loose to stars and living in the moment which only Yeasayer would be able to describe. Fragrant World if summed up in one song is Glass of the Microscope which provides a dark sound to what is a musically complex album that only gets better and better upon each listen.
No more detailing of the album can be really described purely due to Yeasayers capability to create various vibes in every individual song.
